.: Ambient Door Pocket Lighting

This page will review the full ambient lighting installation version.

Front Doors

Front doors use pin 8 of the 32 pin connector. If you don't have a pin in the module then your module is not compatible (another way to tell).

You need to unwrap the tape to get the cover off of the plug. I actually unwrapped up to the tag and kept the tape. It allowed me to keep more of the install looking stock.

The plug is in two parts. In order to insert the wires it needs to be separated. Use a small screw driver or something with a small edge to lift up the latch that holds the plug in place. Use the small tab to pull the plug out.

Note that there are 2 stops you have to go past before you can freely pull the plug out.

You will need some wire to create the plug for the light. The first step is to measure out how much wire you are going to need. In order to make sure I didn't cut my wires to short I marked the wire that goes through the door handle with a string.

Assembling the LED plug:
The plug coves in two parts as seen below.

The first step is to insert the wires into the plug. Note that the pin release must be oriented so it is inserted in the open side of the plug.

Once you have inserted both wires slide the cover into it's locked position.

Harness completed to length:

Using the Audi LED lights Wire #2 from the 2 pin plug goes to pin 8 of the module. Wire #1 goes to ground.

I spliced into the ground wire near the plug. In order to get the shrink wrap on the ground wire I released the wire from the connector then slid it over. Then simply re-inserted the wire into the connector when done. These pins can be released with anything that has a small tip, simply press down on the little arrow on the pin and pull the wire out.

Here we can see the harness wrapped back up and where the plug goes through the door.

Here we can see the wire going through the other side

Once the wiring is complete reinstall the door panel and lets move along to the back doors.
